Renovate Cafe exists for one moment: you're standing in the aisle, or filling a cart online, and you need to know how much to buy. Not a sales pitch, not a quote, not a sign-up wall — just the number.
So that's what we built. Ten calculators for the most common material questions in home improvement — mulch, paint, concrete, decking, fencing, roofing, drywall, tile, flooring, and insulation — and a library of short guides that explain the why behind each one.
How we think about it
Measure twice. Buy once.
The whole site is built around that old workshop rule. A few extra seconds getting the estimate close can save a second trip to the store, a pile of returns, or — worse — running short halfway through a pour. Every calculator gives you the practical answer in the units you actually buy in: cubic yards and bags, gallons and cost, squares and bundles.
How it works
- The math runs in your browser. Nothing you type is sent anywhere. There are no accounts and no logins, because there's nothing to log into.
- Every formula is checked. We check each calculator against standard trade references and unit-test the math before it ships. Even so, calculators give planning estimates that depend on your measurements — for structural, electrical, or permitted work, confirm quantities and code with a local pro. See our full disclaimer.
- It's free, and it stays fast. The site is paid for by tasteful display ads and the occasional affiliate link to tools we'd actually use. We only recommend gear worth owning.
Who's behind it
Renovate Cafe is an independent project, run quietly by a small team that likes building things — both the houses and the websites. We keep our name off it on purpose; the work should stand on its own. If a calculator is off, a guide is unclear, or there's a tool you wish existed, we genuinely want to hear it: get in touch.
Now go pick a calculator and get back to the actual project.
